Too Much Is Never Enough

Most of us say “I don’t want to be rich–no–I just want to be comfortable and not have to worry from day to day” but the question is, if we had that would we be really, truly happy, what if money really grew on trees?

I overheard an interesting conversation at the train station the other day. Well, no, that’s a lie. In truth the conversation was dull and not worthy of being repeated, but the effect it had on my brain – I was slightly tired and bored enough that eavesdropping felt really quite satisfying – was a funny one. It made me laugh, to the extent that I had to pretend I was really sad and this laughter was some adverse effect of it. Here was a man who was complaining because his boat was going to cost a lot to repair because of a rock it had hit. His solution? “Don’t spend too much money fixing up the damn thing, spend the money on moving that damn rock before I hit it again!”

The truth, for me at least, is that I would love to have unlimited wealth like the boat-rock guy, even for a day. Because surely we never have enough money do we? No, it would seem that too much is never just enough.

As for actual money trees, who knows? With genetically modified stuff making huge advances daily, it really wouldn’t surprise me if they started popping up in certain places.
