Secret Room

Going to my nana and granddad’s was boring up until I was about eight years old (all they talked about was golf and cyst removal...). One time, a few months after my eighth birthday, my nana whispered in my ear “would you like to see inside the secret room!”

Would I ever!

I had never been allowed inside the secret room before, and for good reason. Adults were allowed in it (because adults weren’t generally hyperactive and liable to destroy everything inside the secret room as I had had a habit of doing with everything I touched), but I was not. Because of this I had always been forced to sit in the living room while the adults all looked in the secret room.

Until this day–

Nana pushed the door open and said, “please don’t destroy anything, ok? These are my pride and joy.”

I nodded. I was lying of course. At any moment I might get the urge to break something. But as we entered the room and I saw what was in it, I knew I would never want to break such beautiful, sweet smelling, incredible alien things.

The secret room was filled with plants. It was a jungle of them! Small ones, red ones, orange ones and spiky ones. There were cacti, many kinds of flowering plants and things which looked like props from a film set. Ever since that day I have helped nana in her secret room, watering the plants and planting new seeds. We both love it. I’ll be sad when nana is gone and the secret room looses its magic.
